Oh Dear…

Well, here I am. I’m dusting off the cobwebs and oiling up the rust that is iBleed: Yankee Pinstripes. Back in 2009 when I started this blog I swore I’d keep up with it. It was the best creative outlet I had found – at that point – ever. Sadly, it proved too much for me. I was uninspired and unaffected. 2010 was all in all a forgettable season, and I found no reason to write, even though at one point I loved it so much.

I find it amazing that some of my blog friends were so ready and able to keep up with their MLBlogs. I commend you all. I seriously don’t know how you do it. I guess that’s why I’m not looking to become a writer at any point in my life, lol. I know that’s not the only reason to keep a blog, but for whatever reason the 2010 season went stale for me. The euphoria that was 2009 wore off and the San Francisco Giants became the new World Champs. Sigh.
I won’t lie… my love for baseball itself was tested this past season too. I guess there were a few reasons as to why such a thing would happen, which I need not get into. But the love will always be there, no matter what.  I guess it’s just not enough for me to continue with this blog… That, as well as the impending conclusion to my undergraduate career and future that I need to focus on. This is something that just isn’t in the cards for me, unfortunately.
So, as you have probably all (i.e., whoever is reading this) deduced, this is most likely my final entry on MLBlogs. There’s no doubt that I’ll always keep it alive so that I can reminisce on what a fantastic season 2009 was and look at all the comments and remember all the friends I made on here (more on that later). It was a hell of a ride, folks. Hell of a ride.
To conclude, I just want to thank everyone who’s been through here, either to read, comment, or both, or even just to stop by and share a thought or two. You all still mean a great deal to me. I will be forever grateful that there are other souls like mine out there, worshiping at the Cathedral near 161st and River.  Through good times and bad, I’m thankful that you were all there cheering or jeering with me, game after game. You are all amazing people. NEVER change!
Now, I’ll be mushy as well as a bit more specific. I want to thank MLBlogs for introducing me to some of the coolest people on this planet. Virginia & A.J., you two are a couple of the most awesome people I’ll ever come to know, regardless of our ever meeting in person, which I hope happens at some point in life. You two are definitely included in the ones I mentioned above that still vigilantly post to this blog. You are both so amazing! I’m really glad we’re Facebook friends and can still keep up with each other. πŸ™‚ I have so much love for the both of you, it’s insane! For fear of getting really emotionally verbose, thank you for being you. β™₯ YOU GUYS ROCK!
Jane, Jeff & Allen, Chris, Beth, Jason, Peter, and so many others that I’m undoubtedly forgetting: you were all incredibly good to me with your words and support. I’m so glad I got to spend the time I did with you all, despite it being electronically rather than in personal company. Reading all of your blogs and seeing your views on baseball fandom in itself were truly inspirational. I’m beyond glad you’ve all come into and (unfortunately albeit clearly) gone from my life. Whenever I do look back on this blog and all its trimmings, I’ll no doubt remember you all. It’s been real. β™₯
For anyone who does read this entry and wants to keep up with my life, you can find me on Twitter @LSizzFoRizz, add me on Facebook (and, if it’s at all ambiguous, just let me know who you are if you do, lol) or check out my other blog that I use to post pretty much anything and everything on Tumblr. Again, I thank you all, no matter who you are reading this right now, for being a part of iBleed: Yankee Pinstripes. You stay classy, MLBlogs. ;D β™₯
Sincerely yours,
Lisa, aka the Perennial Pinstriper β™₯

     Well, if it isn’t MLBlogs!

Clearly I’ve been slacking, once again -_- School ended a month ago so I really have no excuse for my neglectful behavior. [slaps self] But hey, I’m here now, right? So that’s what counts… I guess…

If I tried to play catch-up for the time I’ve missed, I think I’ll be here until Doomsday. So, I’ll just stick with a brief overview [in no particular order]:
     – “Oh haaay Randy Winn! LOL jk, Goodbye.”
     – F&*^IN’ THAMES!
     – Nick Johnson… sigh @ your life.
     – Hip Hip Jor… ouchies.
     – hey Tex, May called. They said, “WTF BRO?!”
     – Robinson Cano, the spontaneously combustible.
     – Hey, Mo… would you like to NOT give me a heart attack?
     – Swish, the newly engaged and spanker of the month of May.
     – “I’m Armando Galarraga, and I pitched a perfect game! LOL jk Jim Joyce done fudged up!”
     – Ken Griffey, we hardly knew ye… well, actually, we knew you quite well.

joycegalarragab.png     Where to begin… well, the more important stuff needs addressing.  First of all, I’m pretty
sure nearly everyone and their grandmother wanted to give Galarraga that perfecto.  I’m not gonna start an argument, because Lord knows people would get on my case like white on rice.  Did I want the call reversed? Sure, but only for the purposes of making things right by Galarraga… and yes, I am aware of the uproar that would have caused. Do I want more instant replay? Maybe. That’s something I’m not willing to discuss unless I’m in the mood to get my a$s chewed out… which is never. All I’m saying is that the guy got robbed… and at least Joyce felt like a stinking pile of horse manure for it. At least he was sorry. And hey, I might just try to pitch a 28-out no-no just so I can get a Corvette for myself.

It’s also too bad that that incident had to happen just as other news was breaking – Ken Griffey Jr., “The Kid”, retired from the game of baseball.  It’s unfortunate that he had to do this mid-season, when people figured him to hang up his cleats before the season began.  The guy may have broken in before I could get a real firm grasp on the game of baseball, but when I did see him play, it was something. The game is gonna miss him terribly. [salutes]

Okay, back to reality. The Yanks just finished a three-game sweep of the Murphy’s Law team of the MLB, the Orioles. I will admit that I feel pretty horribly for those guys… and just today their manager, Dave Trembley, got fired after a whole lot of rumors flying. Hopefully for their sanity, this move is for the better.
On a lighter note, and why I’m here in the first place, our boys are on FIYAH. Robinson Cano? ARE YOU SERRRIOUS?! [Dickie V voice] Dude is ridiculous right now. I can’t think of any words suitable enough. ASG material, straight up. He’s clearly the best hitter in baseball right now. Nick Swisher has been big in the past month too. I’d start the shmooze factory and go on and on about how much I love him, but he’s engaged now. [sigh] FTL. Okay I’m done with that topic. LOL. Mark Teixeira needs to get his ish in gear… it’s June now, broder. LIGHT IT UP! After a mediocre May – his go-to month – he needs some kinda spark to get himself going. Curtis Granderson, after a stint on the DL is back and better than ever. And Jorge Posada, JoPo fa sho-sho, has been back in DH action after a hairline fracture. Welcome back, Jorge!

arodmob.png     And I guess I’ll welcome myself back to the blogs too. Hopefully this is the first of many more to come in 2010. WOOOOO-HAH!! =D Let’s go Yankees!

Believe It Or Not, I’m Walkin’ on Air…

I’m choosing to forgo the “Now Playing” segment today for a couple of reasons:
          1. I haven’t blogged in a while [once again -_-] and there is much to catch up on.
          2. I am WALKING ON CLOUD NINE right now and I just wanna shout it on the top of Kilimanjaro.

Well, as you can see, I haven’t tweeted in over a month. Failure on my part, of course. I hope most of you remember I didn’t even start blogging until the season was already under way and school was in my rear-view.  Right now, it’s crunch time, the end of my second year (EEEEEK!) and all my professors are of course feeling the need to throw one thing on top of another – papers, tests, other assignments, etc.  Not to mention that April itself is gonna kill me with events… running for a position in Student Government is already a tough bit and I didn’t even get elected yet [you’d think running unopposed and winning by default would be simple]. The next couple of weeks are gonna be killer. Hopefully I make it out alive.  So, of course, my apologies for leaving you hangin’ with the cobwebs that entangle my poor blog.

Secondly, to address that nice little number 2 thing about Cloud Nine… if you’re reading this and you are in fact a follower of mine on Twitter, read no more. I’m sure you’ve heard about it from myself and a few others about 398574 times.
For anyone else, here goes: Nick Swisher – yes, that’s right, THE Nick Swisher who actually updates his own page – RTed ME! =D [girlish squeal] (for anyone still reading that is Twitter-illiterate, RT = retweet, meaning he copied my tweet as his own & added his own words). He asked what people thought about the new bling-bling he and his teammates were rewarded with today, so I decided to put my two cents in… and he RTed me! I was thisclose to hyperventilating, that’s how excited I was. Loser-ish, yes, but still exciting all the same, so SUE ME. =D If you wanna see the screen-shot of this lovely tweet, click here – that should be more explanatory than my delusional self trying to do it justice in words. =D
For any of my lovely tweeps who are reading this, I’m sorry once again for pushing this down your throats, LOL. I love you all! β™₯ I really couldn’t help the madness that ensued, haha.

Okay, now on to the serious business… BASEBALL IS BACK! =D Our boys in blue have returned, their home opener being today.  The World Series ring ceremony was amazing, I teared up on more than one occasion – for Geno and ‘Deki mostly – and I had chills literally the entire time… even though I watched it second-hand [damn you, school! [shakes fist]].  Absolutely amazing. I loved the 2009 team, and I’m hoping to love 2010 even more. As of today, our boys are 4-2 on the road and 1-0 at home; of course winning their first game at the Cathedral in the Bronx since the World Series. Mission 28 has officially begun, and I am beyond stoked! LET’S GO YANKEES! Until we meet again, my fellow bloggeroos…

but I don’t anymore…’ πŸ˜‰

Here we are again… after I promised a lesser interval between blog posts. =X My apologies. Hopefully this time I mean it. =)

Of course, things have been hectic. School, #WBC [β™₯ – you know who you are], and of course Twitter keep me on my toes. Plus, I’ve suffered some severe writer’s block over the off-season. How ridiculous of me. (Yes, I used a hashtag in a blog post. Sue me.)

It’s amazing how consumed your time can get with people you ultimately don’t know. Twitter has introduced me to some of the best friends I could ever think to have in #WBC. Yeah, that may be absurd to most, but people search for the loves of their lives on the Internet, why can’t I find a few good friends? They make me laugh like I’ve never laughed before, there’s hardly ever a dull moment, and they’re there for me, just like best friends would be. So, if you don’t like it, you can get the FUGOUT. Judge me all you want, but my opinions won’t change. If you’re reading this guys, I LOVE YOU! ::widdle voice::

Back to baseball. Well, our beloveds have begun Spring Training and there have been some highs and lows. Non-roster invitees kickin’ a$s and takin’ names, some ’09 heroes coming through and some mucking up… but hey, it’s Spring Training. Should one really delve into that? IMO, no. Spring Training is just that – ‘training’. Whatever happens there is not the end of the world, unless in transitions into the actual season. THEN I’ll be worried.

Hm, what else…? Oh, yes, J-Dames. Hasta luego, my dude. You made a pretty asinine decision. Tell Scott Boras he can stick it where the sun don’t shine for us, will ya? Kthnxbye.

Another thing, as per Pretty in Pinstripes (hey Hiba!), this whole Nomar Garciaparra thing? Really? No, REALLY? Breesus Christ. How anyone can respect RSN is beyond me. That’s enough about that before I vomit up my empty stomach.

Even though I don’t want to take too much into account this Spring Training, I have a feeling those are the thoughts that’ll pick at my brain at least until the season starts. Me not being vocal about things is just not normal…

With that being said, that reminds me: MARCH MADNESS IS NEARLY UPON US! β™₯ Ahhh, I do love this time of year. Too bad UNC ate dirt this season, huh? [rolls eyes] Their tourney shot is basically gone and making the NIT is gonna be harder than it should be, if they even get considered at all. [sigh] There’s always next season, right? -_- Oh well. I still love my Tar Heels. =)

Anyway, once I get back in the saddle of this whole blogging thing, I’m sure it’ll come a lot easier to me like it used to. For those who came around to see the cobwebs, I apologize. Hopefully this post marks my triumphant return to the Blogosphere. Love you guys! β™₯

You’d think I would’ve wrote a few entries between now and the last time I posted. I really don’t even know why I didn’t. This winter break was so boring and unproductive. I really hope summer vacation doesn’t end up like that!

I don’t even know what to write about now, that’s how much nothing I’ve been doing with my days off from school. I’ve wasted pretty much all my time, and now I start back to school on Wednesday. FML to the highest FML.

I hope everyone’s Christmahannakwanzica & New Year celebrations were fantabulous. No complaints on my end. =) I l know pretty everyone [not including myself] is already back on their work/school grind. I kinda wish I was already. I feel like I’ve been out of school forever… but this semester is probably not gonna be so peachy so I guess it’s kind of a double-edged sword. Sigh.

I figured I’d just stop by to say hey and 33 days until pitchers & catchers! =D YAY! I’m so sick of football it’s not even remotely funny, and college basketball can only use up so much of my energy. Oh well. It’ll have to do for now. =)

I know, I’ve been slacking lately… okay, not so much ‘slacking’ but more along the lines of ‘neglectful’, and I sincerely apologize. Don’t hurt me.

A lot of stuff has happened since the last time I posted.  Tiger Woods, well, that’s self-explanatory; the trading of Brian Bruney to the Nationals; the trading of Ian Kennedy, Phil Coke, and Austin Jackson to make way for Curtis Granderson… just so much to keep up with, ya know? But, I think I’ll take this time to address a far more interesting [more like attention-keeping] yet asinine topic… The Jersey Shore.

seaside.jpg     I know what you’re thinking. How could I watch something so ridiculous, terrible, atrocious, and a multitude of other extremely harsh adjectives? I’ll tell you how – comic relief.  I don’t pity any of those 8 [well, now 7; *spolier alert*] fools (Mr. T would be disappointed) by any means. In fact, I relish in their stupidity.  That’s how I am.  I hate stupid people and I live to make as much fun of them as possible.  I absolutely LOVE it.  Funny story, though… I went to elementary school with one of the guys on the show – Vinny, for those who watch… you know, the one who got pink eye? Yeah…

The past two Thursday nights at 10pm, I’ve spent my time watching this show and bashing these clowns to death with my Twitter crew.  It’s always a good time.  They’re some of the people who aren’t outraged by the mere thought of 8 self-proclaimed ‘guidos/guidettes’ going out and partying and getting laid and “making a fool of the Italian race” on national television.  Honestly, I can understand the reasoning behind Italian-Americans getting angry, but c’mon now, it’s not that serious.  I’m sure there are people out there like myself who know that not all Italians are like that, and the ones who are… well, clearly they’re a bunch of as$ponies, but as$ponies that make my Thursday nights that much more bearable. β™₯

How can you not be amused by Nicole, aka ‘Snookie’, a 4’3″ tanned-to-the-point-of-racial-confusion chick from Poughkeepsie who loves her guidette-ness and a c_ckmeat sandwich every now and then? I mean, c’mon, don’t we all? … or Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino, a self-proclaimed Godsend to women with about 3194873198 abs that look like they were sewn on and a face that looks like it got hit by an 18-wheel MAC truck? *drools* OH BABY β™₯.  Or Jenni, aka ‘J-WOWW’ [yes, all capital letters] who wears cloth necklaces and looks like she and Manny Ramirez should meet up and trade hair secrets? How about Angelina, the self-proclaimed [notice how there’s a lot of that going on with these people] ‘Kim Kardashian of Staten Island, baby’? You know, the one who’s ‘all natural’ and therefore ‘hot’? The one who Mike, ‘The Situation’ told to go lose 5 or 10 pounds? Yeah, that one.  I think I hate her the most out of everyone in the house… and now that she’s gone *spoiler alert* I can watch without getting overly angry. Score!
There are four other people in the house, but I think I can tolerate them, at least for now.  I’m not gonna trash-talk Vinny ’cause he was a cool kid when I knew him, and he’s probably the most normal person in the house. That’s ma boy!

**Note** If you didn’t catch it, the paragraph before last was dripping with if not flooded with sarcasm. Kay, thanks.

jerseyshore01.jpg     Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything that was funnier, at least in the realm of non-fiction.  Let’s go through some of the things that made me giggle x19849713813:
     1.  Pauly D putting charcoal in a gas grill, and The Situation lighting it, resulting in part of the grill catching fire.
     2.  Sammi ‘Sweetheart’ and Ronnie hooking up in the guest room, and Sammi apologizing, ‘like, sorry Mom.’
     3.  Vinny walking solemnly around the house saying, ‘guys, I got somethin’ to tell you… I got pink eye.’
     4.  J-WOWW and Pauly hooking up in their room, and J-WOWW saying, ‘I just saw your p

     5.  and something that was supposed to be on next week, but got cut because PEOPLE ARE UPTIGHT -_- : ‘Snookie’ getting punched in the face by some random guy. COMEDY GOLD.  I don’t think I’ve ever taken so much pleasure in people’s demise… but this is just too precious. β™₯

^ Epic win, clearly. Props to VH1 for supplying me with my title as well as my entertainment for this evening. =)

So, as I’ve said, I’ve been working on a collage for my wall in my room… well, it’s not a wall so much as it’s the slanted part of my ceiling since my room is on the far side of my house.  I guess you could say it’s the part between the ceiling and the wall, but whatever. I digress.  I said I’d post my progress, so this picture is after Stage 1 of my project that will now be known as… [drumroll] the Wall Collage of Epic Proportionsβ„’!

stage01collage.jpg     I’m thinking I might rearrange it a bit so that there are only two rows
of pictures, ’cause I have a good 7ish feet [give or take a few inches] left to go on this
wall-like thing and it’d take me forever to fill it. FYI, if you hadn’t noticed, it’s pictures I’ve put on the blog over the course of my starting it. Quirky captions and all! =D

Other ideas I’ve had in my extremely imaginative mind:
             1. Doing the two row thing, and then putting pictures of friends & stuff in the space underneath those rows
             2. Keeping it as is, and when I get to the halfway point, put pictures of friends & stuff on the other half
             3. Splitting the wall-like thing into thirds and putting Yankee stuff on the outer pieces, and friends & stuff in the middle part.

Honestly, I amaze myself sometimes. I’m too creative for my own good. Again, sometimes.  But I have a feeling it’ll come out good no matter what I do, and hopefully the painters’ tape I’m using to stick these things to the wall won’t peel the paint. =D

Annnywho, school has been rough on me lately so this once-a-week-updating thing might just go on for a little while longer. We’ll have to see. And I wish there were decent college basketball games to watch tonight. [sigh] Ah, well. Maybe I’ll start my stats paper. Yeah, that’s right… a paper… for STATS. -_- It’s friggin’ math, but I have a paper to do for it. Real nice. LOL @ college.  Okay. I’m gonna go watch my One-Hit Wonders for the 241719847245627th time. β™₯

One Week Later…

Now Playing: One Week [ Barenaked Ladies ]
‘It’s been one week since you looked at me,
cocked your head to the side and said ‘I’m angry” πŸ˜‰

It’s been one week since that glorious Game 6 in the Bronx. That Game 6 where our beloved Yankees won their 27th World Championship.  That Game 6 where they finally went all the way after a 9 year drought [hello innuendo].  It’s been one long, euphoric yet torturous week since that fateful day, and I have but one thing to say… I WANT BASEBALL. NOW.

After such a long season like baseball, I can never remember what the hell I do with my time during the off-season.  Then I take into account school, college basketball, and the holidays and I realize that even without baseball, life isn’t too, too bad.  It’s beyond weird how much of an impact something like baseball can have on a person.  I’m pretty sure I had the shakes for a few days after last Wednesday.
Staying on the impact topic, I’ve also realized that there are some people that legitimately don’t get it.  I’ve told my friends about how much I love the Yankees.  Now, I know I can be emphatic, but I don’t think I’ve ever realized how much it shows.  I get made fun of, playfully, but still.  People really don’t get it, and honestly, I don’t think I get it either.  How does baseball get into someone’s veins and wreak havoc on their brains and emotions and, well, lives?! It’s a mind-boggling idea… and a blog topic for another day. =)

So, what’s happened since last Wednesday?  Well, the Parade of Heroes, of course.  My boys clean up pretty damn nice if I must say so. Mmmmm. ;D I can only imagine what the first-time player paraders must have been thinking.  Watching that footage [and playing hooky, ssshhh! ;D] certainly made it seem like they were all having the time of their lives.  The youngins especially.  Great, great stuff.  I’m glad I missed classes to watch it.  I used it as a well earned & well needed mental health day.
And, even though it’s only been a week, there have already been talks about contract extenstions, contract renewals, tenders, free agencies, and all that jazz.  Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Andy Pettitte, Jerry Hairston, Jr., and Jose Molina are among the free agents from our boys in blue.  So, in essence, their journey for 2010 has already begun.  It will no doubt be interesting to see who gets re-signed and who gets the boot.  But, no matter what happens with any of these guys, let’s remember one thing: they ALL helped this team make it to the World Series this season, and they ALL helped to win it in one way or another.  I can certainly say, at least for myself, that no matter where they end up, I wish them nothing but the best, and they will always be Yankees in my heart (yes, even if any of them end up in Boston [cough HIDEKI cough]).  Another cause[s] for celebration? Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira win the Gold Glove Awards for their respective positions.  BALLIN’.  Many, many, many congratulations to them, of course. I WUV YOU GUYS! =D

Hmmm, other stuff from this week, let’s see… Well, I’ve decided I’m going to put a collage on one of my walls dedicated to these fabulous men in pinstripes.  It’s a work in major, major progress, but I’m optimistic that it’s gonna be pretty bada$s.  Be sure to look for pictures of the finished product sometime in the near future!  Also, my substitute sport of obsession for the off-season – men’s college basketball – officially began on Monday with the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament.  Let’s go Tar Heels! WOOOOO!  They’re on tonight at 9, so you know where I’ll be at.  At the moment I’m watching Syracuse play the Handmaids of Mary Robert Morris.  Go ‘Cuse!  I can’t wait until the season gets into full swing.  Then come the holidays, and winter break from school. Ahhh, I cannot wait.

So, from here on out, expect a little less about baseball and a little more about other stuff.  A sad thing to see, I know, but I hope that doesn’t hinder anybody from visiting iBleed: Yankee Pinstripes.  I have always and will always bleed blue, even if I don’t always write about it!  Hehe.  Here’s to a great and productive off-season for the Bronx Bombers [and all of baseball], and here’s to hoping beyond hope that our sanity stays intact!

World Series Game 6: Mission 27, Accomplished

Now Playing: New York, New York [ Frank Sinatra ]
‘If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere;
It’s up to you, New York, New York.’ πŸ˜‰

Apropos song choice, no? I figured it would be. =)

gameend1104 01b.png     Wednesday night, we were all rewarded grandly for this 2009 season. The Yankees became World Champions for the 27th time in their illustrious history. What more can be said? Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything you could possibly say to encompass the emotion, passion, and thrill that went into this entire season. Who else could be more deserving? This team, this 2009 dream team, deserved it. We, the fans who waited nine long and torturous years for this to happen again, deserved it. The people responsible for making this team what it was this season deserved it. And last but certainly not least, The Boss deserved it. What a way to come back from no playoffs in 2008 to winning it all in 2009. Absolutely incredible.

gameend1104 03b.png     Game 6 and its epic-ness basically fall on the shoulders of one person: Hideki Matsui. He straight ripped ish up. Three hits, 6 RBI. He was named the MVP of the World Series. I can only imagine what that must’ve felt like, especially with all the speculation about whether or not he’s gonna be back next season. He certainly made a case for himself this entire year. I still can’t really comprehend the game he had. Ridiculous.

Of course, we can’t forget about ol’ Southern Comfort himself, Andy Pettitte. A member of the Old Guard/Core 4, whatever you wanna call them, along with Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera. He pitched a hell of a game despite giving up those three runs. I don’t think I would’ve wanted anyone else on the mound for this game except him, and of course Mariano as well. It was only fitting that Pettitte would get the third clinching win of these playoffs to give him an 18-9 record in the postseason [which is the most wins by any pitched in the playoffs, mind you].

And now, with the parade over not too long ago, baseball has officially ended [cries out loud]. But, now the counting down can begin. 150 days until Opening Day 2010. 90-and-some-odd days until pitchers and catchers report. Hot stove coverage begins next week. I’m actually looking forward to this offseason and getting even more enveloped in baseball than I already am. So, I will leave you with some photos from the end of Game 6. Look for another post tomorrow with pictures & other stuff from the parade [I wish I was at]!

Okay, I’ll be honest. I wasn’t so crushed that our boys didn’t win it all last night. Yeah, I know, sounds crappy. But I LOVE beyond love the fact that we’re gonna win it in New York. Yep, we’re GONNA win it in New York, not maybe, not possibly, but definitely. I was almost begging for it. You can’t tell me winning #27 at home wouldn’t be a million times sweeter than winning it on the road, even if it was against Cliff Lee. You also can’t tell me that you just wanted these guys to win to “get it over with,” ’cause that’s just ridiculous. Baseball should last forever, period. =)

burnett07b.jpg     But anyway, last night wasn’t a good night to get it done anyway. Mr. Hyde aka Bad AJ Burnett was in town. Unfortunate, but it was the reality we faced. He only went 2 innings [into the third, but got no one out] and racked up 6 earned. Luckily Dave Robertson is god-like and he saved our butts for two innings after that, followed by Alfredo Aceves, who also went 2 scoreless. After that, we faced a near-fatal choking by Phil Coke, who allowed two more runs to make the score 8-2 after seven innings. Oh yeah, that Cliff Lee guy wasn’t too bad… neither was that Chase Utley character. o_O Hope was nearly lost, and I was nearly relieved; that’s how badly I wanted this series to continue. I don’t care how bad that sounds. I’m selfish. I admit it. I want these guys to grace the new Stadium with a ridiculously gorgeous banner that was earned there, not anywhere else. Sue me.

Color me surprised when the Yankees come back in the 8th and manage to tack on another three runs, making the score 8-5 and therefore… wait for it… a SAVE situation! Sure, everybody wanted Brad Lidge on the mound so he could give us another graceful performance as he did in Game 4, but we never saw him. Looks like Charlie Manuel had his head screwed on rather snugly last night. Good decision making on his part, clearly.
Anyway, our boys added another run in the 9th, making the score 8-6. My eyes were fairly widened at this point. However, the bleeding was ceased and the score became final. Ah, well. Off to New York we go! =D

Sidebar 1: Shane “Skirts McGirts” Victorino took a ball of the hand in the first inning courtesy of AJ Burnett. No breaks (dammit) and he stayed in the game for a good while (dammit again). What. a. trooper. [vomits] =)

damon03b.jpg     Back to the game. Alex freakin’ Rodriguez = Beastmatic 3000. 3 RBI on two hits. Johnny Damon & Robinson Cano added an RBI apiece to the mix. All the elements for a comeback classic were there, but they just weren’t to be had. And yes, once again, I’m not losing sleep over it. So weird, but I can just taste the sugary sweetness of winning #27 in the House that George Built.

Sidebar 2: Alanis Morissette (a Canadian) singing the National Anthem (of America). “Isn’t it ironic, don’tcha think?” It’s like getting your hair cut by a bald guy. What a trip that was.

Andy Pettitte is on the mound tomorrow against Pedro Martinez. That alone is something that will make the win even better. Facing Pedro in our house? C’mon, you can’t possibly tell me you would not love to see that. Seriously. Let’s be logical here, people, sheesh. =) Here’s to tomorrow, bloggers, for it will be sweeter than the nectar of the gods; trust me. πŸ˜‰
